I Miss My Dad

Hi Daddy,

I just want you to know that I love you and miss you. I was out to the cemetery yesterday and the grave blankets are on yours and Grandma and Grandpa's graves. They will provide good shelter to small birds when the snow falls, and I know you would appreciate that. I will come back and put some red bows on your grave for Christmas.

I never thought that it would be so hard to lose a parent. These last 6 weeks have been rough and I am going to Hospice to get grief counseling. I realize that you had a tremendous impact on my life, and I am missing that anchor that you were for me.

Even though you weren't yourself for the past few years, I am mourning you for who you were in my life. You gave me strength, you gave me moral support, you taught me to stand up for myself, and to have integrity in what I do. You were my "safe" parent when I was frightened of Mom and her drinking. I know you loved me dearly, and when you told me that on the day I was born, I was going to be a happy child, your wish came true. I am sad, but I have turned out to be a happy woman who has tried to make you proud of me. I know you were.

Tomorrow when we sit down for Thanksgiving, I will have Tim your nephew say a prayer for you and your sister. We know you will all be together and looking after us. I have a poem that Hospice gave me and we will light candles in your memory.

What else can I say Dad? I know that you knew I was with you those last few days. I was glad to be able to hold your hand, and touch your face and kiss you. I miss you Daddy, so much, I just can't believe you are gone. Watch out for me Dad. I will try to be strong.
