I Miss My Dad

Dad, I wish you could be here for me each day when I have so much to tell you about my life. I wish you could be here to give me away at my wedding and see the children I will have grow up and get married themselves. I wish that you could be here in April when you should have turned 48, but will forever be 24. Most of all dad, I am afraid of my next birthday, because I will be 24, and then when I turn 25, I will be older than you. It will so hard to know that you missed out on the years that I will soon experience. But I know that a part of you is in me, and you are always watching out for me. I know that I am like you in so many ways, and that I carry that part of you with me each day. The integrity, honestry, love, compassion, playfulness, messiness...it is all you in me.
