I Miss My Dad
Today is Father's Day. Yesterday we had a ceremony up on your property to
bury your ashes on your favorite spot of your land. Mom had a bench built as
a shrine, Jerry designed it and he and John built it. Matt and I planted
some plants and Ron and his sons poured cement for each family to put their
names, their children's and our grandchildren's handprints to be there
forever. Mom bought some beautiful trees that will grow and give some nice
shade to make the bench a great place to sit and mediate. Jennifer
orchestrated the ceremony and it was a very nice event. She read a lovely
poem and then turned the ceremony over to the rest of us to get up and read
and tell a story about you. I got up and read a poem in your honor, but
couldn't keep from crying. Matthew related how much he enjoyed being in your
company and how much he is missing you. I was so proud of him. Burying your
ashes was difficult for me. I miss you so much dad, I want you to know I
loved you so much and trusted and listened to your values. Your zest for
life are sorely missed by mom, your children and grandchildren. These past
six months have shown all of us how difficult it is to lose someone you love
and respect as much as we all loved and respected you. You were a great man
and I am so lucky that you were my dad. Home is not the same without you. I
love you so.
Happy Father's Day.
Sally
