I Miss My Dad
I was watching a Christian worship program this morning. The worship leader
was talking about time and how God's plan for us is to take time to
accomplish certain things. One of those things is mourning. In the day and
age we live everything is "get it done now". Like the advertisement says,
we weren't satisfied with fast food we had to add the drive through. It's
not E-mail anymore it's instant messaging. Take four hours to cook a pot
roast? We just microwave something in 3 minutes. It's easy for us to think
we have to rush through other things, such as grief and mourning over the
loss of a loved one. The Lord's design is to take the time we need to go
through the process. The Bible says:
Ecclesiastes 3
1. There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity
under heaven:
2. a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to
uproot,
3. a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to
build,
4. a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to
dance,
5. a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to
embrace and a time to refrain,
6. a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to
throw away,
7. a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to
speak,
8. a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for
peace.
Does this give a license to mourn for the loss of a loved one for the rest
of our days? No, but it does mean we have to give the mourning process it's
proper amount of time so we can get whatever benefits from it we are
supposed to get.
Does it mean we will never cry or miss our loved ones? No. My niece and
nephew were murdered by my sister-in-law, their mother, 14 years ago. When
I hear of this happening to another family, like recently in Texas, all of
the feelings come back from when my family went through it. I know my niece
and nephew are with the Lord, but I still miss them and wonder what they
would look like today and what they would be doing.
I heard a song today called "I Miss my Time with You". It's about the Lord
waiting for us to stop and talk to Him. We say we're too busy. I know how
He feels and He knows how I feel. I miss my time with my niece and nephew
and it's time I'll never have because they went on to be with the Lord at
such a young age. But I know I'll see them again, in heaven.
We should all strive to take the time we need to mourn those who have passed
this world. I'm going to try my best not to miss my time with those still
here, especially my family, and my Lord.
